Footsteps in Faith

As part of our on going programme of Christian teaching and development, we have run our own course Footsteps in Faith which is based on the Anglican Emmaus Course

A few years ago we were looking for ways in which we could improve our understanding of the Christian Faith and develop greater spiritual awareness.

We decided that the "Emmaus" course material, particularly the sections entitled "Nurture" and "Growth" were well suited to our needs. This course is designed by the Church of England for use in parishes. After some introductory "taster" sessions for the Church council, we studied this material in two series of evening meetings in our parish hall including a variety of forms of worship as we went along. As recommended by the authors of the "Emmaus" material we used our own title for these meetings, hence "Footsteps in Faith"

Members of the group then decided that they would like to change the format of the meetings. The group now meets on Wednesdays at 7.45pm in members' homes to study and discuss a variety of Christian topics including, for example, specific books of the Bible or topics such as "Angels" or "Spiritual Warfare". We close about 9.00pm when we have a chat over coffee and biscuits. The venue can be found in the Church notices

These meetings have proved a fruitful way of learning and praying together and have shown themselves to be good examples of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. They have enabled people to explore their faith more deeply, and to be nurtured and grow in Christian discipleship.

Anyone is very welcome to attend as and when they are able. Our meetings are very informal and friendly, and although we hope that people will stay with the course, people can opt in or out as they wish. We appreciate that people are busy these days and have other commitments. We have a break over the holiday periods and half term.
