The history of the funding is as follows :

Quotes from 1910/1911 Church Magazines.

‘ Spinsters ‘ Tea Party & Entertainment was held on November 26th. 1910 in the school room to raise funds for the Sunday School Banner for the Field Day Procession – raised £20 .19.6d.

Cake & Apron Sale held on February 25th. 1911 – raised £13.2.7d.

May 1911 – a rich embroidered & colourful banner , the money which has been worked for & contributed by our Sunday School Scholars has been ordered from Messrs. Jones & Willis, Ecclesiastical Art Workers in Liverpool will be ready in July 1911.

(In 1880 The Church Congress Guide cited Jones & Willis as an exemplary company – like many firms of the time they would offer completely to fit out a church. They exhibted at the Great Exhibition of 1851)

Sunday School Annual Field Day Procession ,

Tea & Sports took place on Saturday July 9th. 1911.

"The beautiful new banner was used for the first time & was carried by the strong hands of some young men & preceded & followed by several of our youngest girl scholars , all neately & gaily clad for the occasion.

The Procession made its first halt at Riley Green when a hymn was sung then the Railway Station, Church Lane & back to the school room for tea & afterwards sports & games in Mr Cowpe’s field & a performance of a pageant representing ‘ Britannia & Colonies ‘"

The most recent restoration of the banner has been carried out by Eleanor Palmer ,

Lancashire Conservation Studios ( Textiles ) ,
